Silverchair bassist Chris Joannou today announced the band will be playing two new songs during their upcoming run of live shows around Australia.

The information was revealed in a message sent to subscribers of the band’s mailing list this morning [Update: the message has now been posted on Chairpage.]

The titles of the new songs are:

16
— Machina Collecta

Chris also spoke about the recording of the album. “As you may have come to expect from us – the album is moving in a very different direction from anything we’ve recorded previously. The three of us are all really pumped to be back in the studio again making new music together.”

He continued: “It’s been all systems go in the Silverchair camp over the last little while. Since Dan returned home from New York (where he spent time writing last year) we’ve all been in lock down rehearsing and doing demos… We are really excited with the sounds emerging from the studio and everyday is a new surprise.”

The album is currently being referred to as simply “Album #6″.

Silverchair play their first live shows since 2008 over the next few weeks. Tomorrow they will headline the Groovin’ The Moo festival at Bendigo Showgrounds (VIC), followed by Townsville (QLD), Maitland (NSW), Canberra (ACT), Bunbury (WA) and Darwin (NT).

The band are back together…

Hi everyone

With the announcement that Silverchair are working on a brand new album I’ve decided to breathe life into the site again.

Silverchair Central began as another site – Silverchair Rarities – in 1998. Over time I hope to incorporate a lot of the material from that site – old photos, live concert recordings and other memorabilia – into this one.

We are coming to an exciting time in Silverchair’s career. The band are working on their first album in three years and have announced a number of live shows around Australia. I hope to cover these along with any other news and media appearances leading up to the release of the new album.

Thanks for visiting

Anthony

Young Modern on US iTunes

In an underwhelming statement on their MySpace page, Silverchair’s management have announced that the new album will be available online in the US before it’s available in local music retailers.

A post on the band’s MySpace blog says:

Silverchair’s highly anticipated album ‘Young Modern’ will soon be available through a special iTunes presale offer. Additional information will be posted as information becomes available.

While this presale might appeal to the general public, most Silverchair fans have already got their hands on the new album. In an age when music is available almost instantly online who can blame them? Check out comments from fans on the blog page.
